Determination of trace elements in sediment reference materials by monochromatic X-ray excitation X-ray fluorescence spectrometry.

A new reliable analytical method, "Monochromatic X-ray Excitation X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry", has been proposed. For validating the method, trace elements in sediment certified reference materials were determined. In the method X-ray fluorescence spectra are measured for specimens and pure metals; in addition the mass-attenuation coefficients of the specimens for various X-ray wavelengths...

Method 6200 - Field Portable X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry for the Determination of Elemental Concentrations in Soil and Sedi

1.1 This method is applicable to the in situ and intrusive analysis of the 26 analytes listed in Table 1 for soil and sediment samples. Some common elements are not listed in Table 1 because they are considered "light" elements that cannot be detected by field portable x-ray fluorescence (FPXRF). They are: lithium, beryllium, sodium, magnesium, aluminum, silicon, and phosphorus. Most of the ana...

Simultaneous determination of trace elements in serum by energy-dispersive x-ray fluorescence spectrometry.

Energy-dispersive x-ray fluorescence is applied in the analysis of human serum to determine the concentrations of several elements simultaneously with minimal manipulation of the sample. The analytical procedure has been developed with standard sera, and standardization, detection limits, and reproducibility have been established. A 50-microL sample of diluted serum, to which an internal standa...

Determining the Content of Silicon Dioxide in Bauxites Using X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry

The X-ray fluorescence spectrometry and the MA.BM.006 reference spectrophotometric methods were used to determine the content of SiO2 (%) in bauxites from different deposits. The treatment of samples prior to the analysis involved the following steps: annealing, melting using the borax method,  and the formation of beads. Certified reference bauxite samples were used for the cali...

Medical Applications of X-ray Fluorescence for Trace Element Research

Techniques for estimation of element levels directly in humans (non-invasive in vivo) or in samples (in vitro) from humans are reviewed. Toxic, nonessential, trace elements may cause temporary or permanent damage to various organs and tissues in humans. There is thus a need to control the concentrations. Knowledge of the relations between toxic effects and element concentration may be extracted...
